Sex is one of the most important aspects of human life. It is the
cause for the initial attraction between the opposing genders which
may lead later to intimate relationships and long lasting intimacies.
It is also a source of intense pleasure that can be experienced by the
poor and the rich alike.
Sex is indeed the noblest blessing that the creator has behoved
upon the living.
Good sexual relationship is an essential part of stress
management in daily life.
Sex and sexual feelings are nothing to be ashamed of, and if
utilized in the proper way, gives an innate depth to relationships and
a meaning to marital love.
Healthy sexual life depends upon many factors, the important being:
Neurological
diseases: Any diseases affecting the neuronal transmission from
the brain through spinal cord can cause erectile problems,
especially transverse myelitis, parkinsonism, multiple sclerosis,
trauma etc
Sexual
response and gratification are noble human characteritics. Respect
them
As
far as possible, stick to a single faithful partner to avoid
sexually transmitted diseases
If
you must, always use condum for other sexual contacts except your
partner. Remember, though, condom is not 100% safe.
Sexual
response and performance are highly indvidualized. Do not expect
yourself or your partner to act like superhumans, like those
stalwarts on the "movies".
Both
partners willing , no sexual act is forbidden. But care for your
partner and respect his/her feelings.
Some
types of sexual acts, like anal sex or sex during menstruation can
predispose to infections in both partners than the straight forward
one.
Always
wash well with warm water and soap before and after a session
Always
have time for foreplays, giving more attention to the erogenous
zones of your partner
As
far as possible, avoid sex without love
Marital
sex can get drab after sometime. Bringing in freshness to marriage
sex require some ingenuity and creativity.
A few tips:
Try
changing the time, place and position frequently
Talk
seductively
Pretend
to be your partner's dream boyfriend/girlfriend and talk and
have contact in such ways
Fantasize
and share the fantasy with your partner during the sexual act.
But be sure to affirm that it was only a fantasy later on!
Show
care and love regularly with words and gestures, the physical
attraction will follow! Be sincere in your approach.
Avoid
smoking
Check
your cholesterol and blood sugar regularly, as these are very common
causes of sexual difficulties
Avoid
regular, excess alcohol consumption. Alcohol, as you know, indeed increases
the desire but taketh away the performance!
A sensual massage by your spouse can do wonders
to your sex life!

Miscellaneous
Is
masturbation bad for health?
Definitely
NO! I get lots of patients, especially from the
Indian sub-continent, who come with all sorts of
illnesses attributed to masturbation and
"night falls". Because of social taboos
and restrictions, there is a suppressed sexual
stress in such individuals.
This
points towards the need for proper sex education
in high schools, where at present the main
educators are ill informed friends and
pornographic material. Unethical alternative
therapists prey on the weakness of the ignorant.
Masturbation
may be actually good to release the suppressed
sexual hunger and also to release the stored semen
to stimulate better spermatogenesis.(Could a back
pressure of pent up semen be one cause of
strerility in the poor expatriate work force
staying away from their families?)
I
always try to remove all such misconcepts from the
patients' mind and advice those who do not or
cannot have regular sexual intercourse to practice masturbation at least once a week,
if they are feeling the tension.. This
is indeed a better alternative than going to sex
workers and landing up with a series of
potentially dangerous or life threatening
infections like HIV, syphilis, gonorrhoea, herpes
genitalis etc.
