Most parts of the skin are covered by hair either course or downy.
No hair is found on the palms of the hand or soles of the feet. The
roots of the hairs are found in the dermis.
Near the root of each hair is a sebaceous gland which produces an oily substance (sebum), which helps to keep the skin supple and the hairs from becoming dry and brittle.
